Land’s End to John O’Groats or LEJOG is the UK’s ultimate long distance route, spanning 1,000 miles of incredible runs across three countries. The route dates back over a hundred years and countless creative records have been set by walkers and cyclists, including George Pilkington Mills who completed the journey on a penny in 1886 in just 5 days!
LEJOG is an extremely popular challenge, but one of the things we love is the diversity of these challenges. We’ve been running our own LEJOG bike rides since 2006, and over the years we’ve enjoyed being part of so many inspiring stories: octogenarians pedaling, visually impaired tandem riders, and even a Paralympic rider on a recumbent bike. Our ‘classic’ LEJOG takes place over two weeks, but we also offer a hugely popular three-week route so even more people can join in the fun. New for 2025, we are excited to launch a brand new e-bike tour, traveled over three weeks. We’ve been accepting e-bikes on our LEJOG tours since 2018, but with a dedicated tour we hope even more people will feel encouraged to complete this stunning, iconic journey.
Is LEJOG on an electric bike still a challenge?
Absolutely! LEJOG is not a beginner’s ride, even with the boost of a battery. The bikes will definitely make the many hills a little less intimidating, but you’ll still cover a good distance each day with plenty of climbing. That said, LEJOG on an electric bike is a lot of fun! Our cycling holidays are all about soaking up the sights and sounds as you twist the pedals, something even more relaxing from the more upright position of a hybrid bike with a little boost for those daring climbs. If you’re considering signing up to join us in 2025, here are our top tips from Skedaddle guides for getting the most out of your e-LEJOG trip…
Training before the trip
Cycle regularly
Your LEJOG trip will be much more enjoyable if you practice before you leave. Even if you ride a few miles each day for consecutive days, it will be less of a shock when you find yourself riding regularly for three weeks. Especially to feel comfortable with your butt in the saddle for days!
Try an electric bike before you go
If you are a regular cyclist, you will be used to pedaling, but riding an electric bike is a completely different experience. The bikes are a bit heavyr, and while the battery means it doesn’t affect the effort required to turn the pedals, it does mean they may work in a different way than you’re used to.. It’s also helpful to familiarize yourself with how they work (power settings, speeds and charging) so you can feel confident from day one of the tour and focus on enjoying the ride. Essential kit
Don’t skimp on your shorts
Make sure you put your 25% off Endura voucher to good use and invest in a quality pair if you don’t already own one.
Pack decent thermal and waterproof layers
British weather is renowned for being unpredictable, especially as we head north, so it’s important to be prepared, even in summer. One of the benefits of a hybrid e-bike is that it comes with panniers, perfect for storing your extra layers, ready to put them on when the clouds roll in.
On the road
Take care of your battery and yourself
LEJOG is a fun challenge, but our circuits are not a race to the finish. Some days we cover a lot of miles, so it’s a good idea to keep your bike in eco mode. Increase the power assist level for hills when you need it and remember to switch back to eco mode on float sections.
Don’t forget to use your equipment
Electric bikes are no different than regular bikes when it comes to selecting the right equipment for the terrain. When approaching a hill, remember to shift to a lower gear before increasing the electric assistance.
Dress appropriately
If you usually ride a regular bike, you may notice that you feel the cold more on an electric bike because you’re not exercising as much. Be sure to wrap up, especially as we head into wilder parts of the UK.
Enjoy the camaraderie!
Enjoy riding with like-minded Skedadlers on e-bikes while completing this epic journey together. Don’t forget to take some photos along the way to share with the rest of the Skedaddle community!

All the days were really enjoyable. This was my 4th trip with LEJOG (first with Skedaddle) and it was by far the best route.
The unusual LEJOG locations we saw and stayed in mean I have enough stories and memories to last a lifetime. The whole trip seemed like a lot less effort and a lot more fun because it was done Skedaddle style.
The routes were great! I was amazed at how much of the main roads were avoided and, consequently, by the beauty of the landscapes and villages that we enjoyed cycling through.
