Do you feel 20 years younger in less than 10 minutes? That’s a very bold statement, and I don’t make it lightly, I can assure you. But that was my overriding feeling when testing the new Cytronex C1.
So why am I making this bold claim? Shouldn’t I say that after finding a miracle potion from the Amazon rainforest, available only by signing up online for £9.99 a month… for the rest of my life?
It’s because that’s not why I was so interested in this absolutely incredible kit and therefore I’m blown away by the unexpectedness of what I actually discovered the day I went to test the Cytronex C1.
Let’s back up a bit. (I honestly try to resist the urge to use cycle-related puns, but it doesn’t seem to work).
At first, I even found it difficult to broach the subject of assisted driving with my partner. I assumed he would consider it “cheating.” He is a qualified cycling coach and teaches children with special needs. And he LOVES the hills.
And therein lies the problem. No more backpedaling necessary…
I have been a cyclist most of my life, as a child I would cycle miles around the Oxfordshire countryside and as a commuter I would travel 10 miles to and from work. adolescence and early twenties. Then came the inevitable shift to automobiles, as better jobs meant longer commutes and company cars.
But these scenarios are all too common. And the bike was forgotten for over a decade…more if I’m honest.
Around my (very) forties, I rediscovered cycling. Oh my God, what was I thinking when I didn’t ride for so long? There is NO better feeling than being on a bike. It makes me smile as I write this. (Um… I have to say though, while I’m writing at home, guess where my better half is? Yes, riding her bike!)
So my first adventure into cycling was purchasing a stunning gray and turquoise Specialized Dolce through the Cycle to Work program. It was magnificent. That’s still the case, by the way – I can’t bear to sell it even though I now have an equally stunning but slightly better Bianchi. But my first road bike – wow! I admit it sat at my house for 4 weeks, leaning against the wall while I admired it, but I was too scared to ride on it in case I fell off the cleats and damaged the bike. (Okay – and maybe my ego too!)
When I found the courage to ride it, I couldn’t have been happier. I even took part and completed the London to Brighton Cycle Sportive and proudly hung the medal in the office. I was back in the game and loving it.
However, I am now in my 50s and am experiencing a slight problem that is really affecting my cycling. Maybe like many of you “50 year olds” I’m losing core and lower back strength and really struggling to get up those hills. With a partner who cycles a lot and with whom I love cycling, that’s a problem. So when I read an article about the C1 – perhaps in Cycle Active, or one of the many cycling magazines overflowing from the drawers and cupboards of our house – it was a Eureka moment.
Now, how do I tell a cycling coach that I’m planning to “cheat”… Would he be embarrassed to ride next to a whirring, rattling “engine”? Because that’s how I imagined it would be, despite the research I did.
This was really on my mind – WAS it cheating? After careful consideration, I didn’t believe it. This would be a way for me to continue cycling, enjoy cycling time with my partner and stay fit and healthy.
This is exactly what the marketing around the C1 promises. Easier travel; the ability to stay in touch with friends; and a lightweight travel option for campers are among the reasons to buy. I can see how he can easily answer all of these points.
What marketing forgets to mention is emotions and feelings. To me, these are much more compelling reasons to buy the Cytronex C1.
I smiled the moment I pressed that boost button because I could instantly see that this was going to change my life. Yes, it’s dramatic – read any of my articles and you’ll see that maybe it’s a personality trait – but seriously, it’s INCREDIBLE. And I’m not paid to say that.
I literally felt 20, even 30 years younger. Let’s go back to how I felt on the 10 mile commute to work, before a day spent running around a department store as a visual merchandiser, then a game of squash after work and finally the 10 mile commute to going home – all without breaking a sweat.
This feeling of unlimited energy is priceless.
So it doesn’t spin, bang, or make any of the attention-grabbing noises I was dreading. You really couldn’t hear it at all.
And do you know what my cycling coach partner said when he was riding alongside me during the test?
“Oh, actually, I wouldn’t mind one of those…”
Ah…!
I’m not going to get into the technical specifications of the C1 – those of you whose brains work that way can get your technical fix from the Cytronex website. The rest of you just need to trust me: this invention will put a huge smile on your face as soon as you engage the “warp thruster.”
I am totally hooked and placed my order. Yes, it can cost £995 for the kit, more if you want the bike too – but you can’t put a price on fitness and sheer joy. I will continue to praise this product to everyone who will listen because I want everyone to experience being 20 years younger. Who the hell wouldn’t?
