Livedoor Urban Sports Park, a three-hectare multi-purpose sports park, has just opened in Tokyo, Japan. It is located in Ariake, a few minutes east of Aomi, where climbing made its Olympic debut in August 2021.
The IFSC donated all the wedges, as well as the volumes and pads used during the Tokyo Olympic Games to equip the new Livedoor park. IFSC Vice President Kobinata Toru, head of sport climbing at the Olympics, attended the opening of the park.
The Tokyo Olympics saw some of the world’s best climbers compete in the combined heading, speed and bouldering categories. In the end, Janja Garnbret and Alberto Gines Lopez won gold.
Climbing also appeared at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where Garnbret won gold again, alongside Toby Roberts. Climbing is expected to take place during the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
