Sydney, Australia – September 23, 2024 – The North Face shows us how they play differently, with a FREE 3-day climbing takeover at World Square, taking place Friday, October 11th through Sunday, October 13th.
The North Face invites customers to enter into a total immersion into the world of climbing, bringing the spirit of the outdoors to the heart of Sydney’s CBD. Transforming World Square into an epic playground, this one-of-a-kind activation is designed to break down the barriers of climbing, making the sport more accessible and inclusive for all.
This comes as The North Face introduces its new brand anthem: “We Play Different,” which celebrates the fearless spirit and core values that have defined the brand for the past 60 years. Filmed in the world’s most epic unconventional playgrounds, the campaign highlights the personal triumphs and milestones achieved by its team of world-renowned athletes and pays tribute to the personal conquests and journeys of those who play differently in their approach to exploring places no one else has experienced. summer – from peaks, cliffs, trails and peaks.
“We Play Different” aims to challenge its clients to challenge norms and explore new paths. Continuing this theme, The North Face will encourage the climbing curious to get involved in FREE, beginner-friendly climbing workshops in the middle of World Square Mall, in partnership with one of the world’s leading bouldering gyms. The North Face athletes and special guests, including Lucy Stirling, Ben Cossey and Olympian Tom O’Halloran, will join the weekend-long celebration to coach, advocate and educate consumers, helping to build a strong climbing community on and off the mountain. .
Attendees can expect beginner-friendly climbing sessions, live music, interactive games, free drinks, prizes and much more! The activation is open to the public for one weekend only, providing a unique opportunity to explore new ways to play and enjoy the outdoors in an urban environment.

Lucy Stirling | @lucyclimbing
Lucy Stirling is an Australian climbing icon. Over the past decade, she has established herself as one of the country’s most successful competitive climbers, competing in 26 Open World Cups and 3 Open World Championships from 2014 to 2022.
In recent years, Lucy has experienced a paradigm shift. Although she had done her best to balance outdoor climbing and her competitive career, her burning desire for adventure was growing, along with her “bucket list” of challenging outdoor projects on which she now focused her energy .
Tom O’Halloran | @tom_ohalloran
Tom O’Halloran is a professional climber from the Blue Mountains. Although he focused on intense outdoor climbing, Tom also competed on the Australian Ninja Warrior and became the first Australian Olympian to compete in rock climbing for the 2020 Olympic Games.
When Tom isn’t climbing, he shares tips about it on his YouTube channel where his content focuses on the lessons he’s learned from climbing at the highest level and on outdoor climbs.
Ben Cossey | @benjcossey
Ben Cossey is a climber, boulderer, trainer and physio living in the Blue Mountains. A climber for over 21 years, Ben has completed his first ascents and repeats of the most difficult sport routes in the country, and is known throughout the city as an obsessive trainer.
With a personality suited to the big screen, Ben will release a feature climbing film in early 2025 exploring the climbing areas of Queensland and northern New South Wales.
