As the new Hyrox season approaches, athletes are looking for a competitive edge to help them prepare for the challenge ahead. Our brand ambassador Simon Williams, founder of SW Fitness and Hyrox athlete, has led his team to success through a personalized, data-driven coaching approach. Simon’s experience as a competitor and coach makes him uniquely qualified to guide athletes, whether they are seasoned competitors or racing for the first time.
The SW Fitness approach
At SW Fitness, each athlete begins their journey with a detailed assessment to assess their current fitness level and identify areas for improvement. Simon explains:
Each athlete goes through a series of assessments and tests at the start of their journey, whether they are new or existing clients. This helps me determine their entry point and areas we need to develop or amplify if it’s a strength.
Using this data, Simon creates tailor-made coaching plans tailored to each athlete’s needs. Training is typically structured into cycles, each focusing on different aspects of Hyrox preparation. These cycles include:
Pre-season: Develop fundamental strength and endurance.
Intensification of races: A 6-8 week phase leading up to a race, focused on increasing intensity and preparing for race conditions.
In-season training: Designed to maximize athletes’ performance twice per season by balancing intensity and recovery based on their racing program.
Strength and engine construction: Develop the physical power and endurance needed for heavy pushes, pulls and other sled strength-based stations.
Development in progress: Essential to improving uptime, a crucial element of Hyrox’s success.
Unloading and tapering: Two weeks before the competition, the training intensity decreases to allow recovery and optimal race performance.
Simon continually monitors his athletes’ progress, adjusting their training based on performance data from training sessions and races.
After each race, I review the analysis, which helps shape their journey ahead. It’s about adapting to the specific needs of each athlete.
Accomplishments of the SW Fitness team
The success of Simon’s approach is reflected in the achievements of the SW Fitness team. Last year, twenty-one of its athletes beat the Hyrox average time in their divisions and earned multiple podium finishes, including two 1st places at the Hyrox London Olympia, a 2nd place at the Hyrox London Excel, a 3rd place in Cologne and four athletes qualified for the Hyrox World Championships.
Final Thoughts
As the next race in Birmingham approaches, Simon is excited to see his athletes put their training to the test. Using a systematic approach focused on both individual strengths and the unique demands of Hyrox racing, Simon continues to help athletes achieve extraordinary results in one of the most demanding competitive sports.
Whether you’re looking to improve your Hyrox time or compete for the first time, Simon’s methods offer a proven model for success.
