Tips for Becoming a Morning Fitness Enthusiast
1. Slowly adjust your alarm
If you are used to getting up at 7:00 a.m., don’t immediately rush to wake up at 4:00 p.m. Go in slowly. Go wake up at 6 a.m. one week and get acclimated to that. Then try another week at 5:30 p.m., then another at 5:00 p.m. until you are comfortable getting up earlier and earlier. Sooner or later you will get used to it and find it more manageable.
2. Prepare the day before
Save time in the morning by neatly arranging your workout clothes and shoes in your bedroom. Place your gym bag, water bottle, and any other gear you’ll need near the door. Not only will this save you a few steps in the morning, but it will also give you visual motivation.
3. Don’t nap
As tempting as the snooze button is, it will only slow you down and could completely interrupt your morning fitness efforts. It may seem difficult at first, but once the alarm goes off, get up and go! Once you’re up, it’ll be a lot easier than you fear.
4. Hydrate yourself
Throw in some water right away. If you need to, drink a cup of coffee while you’re at it. Even if you don’t want to develop a caffeine addiction, a little coffee won’t hurt you and may be enough to help you get through those really tough days. Water, on the other hand, will hydrate your body after hours of sleep and help you start the day. Proper hydration will also help you maximize your workout, no matter the time of day!
5. Start with 10 minutes of cardio
Once at the gym, hop on a treadmill, bike, or elliptical to get started. This will wake you up if you’re still feeling groggy and will be a great way to regain energy for the rest of your workout.
While these tips aren’t foolproof, they should help get you on the right track! Become a morning fitness enthusiast and free your nights from now on!
