Nature has always been my main source of comfort and escape. The rhythms and patterns of plants, animals and seasons are so deeply reassuring. The unavoidable hope that arises from sowing seeds or burying bulbs in anticipation of a more beautiful future. The firmness of century-old trees that have already seen it all. The joyful oblivion of the birds singing in the trees.
Taking time to be in nature and notice its gradual changes is my most consistent mindfulness practice. And that’s what makes the quickest and most tangible difference to my mental state. Just five minutes with my hands in the dirt or looking at the sky and I feel better.
