We are looking for a group of people to join our Beyond the Room team. This is a paid opportunity open to researchers, practitioners, and people with lived experience.
The Mental Elf team reports live from mental health conferences, workshops and all sorts of other events in person and online. We bring our large social media audience to the meetings so that a wide range of people can join conversations about mental health and research.
It’s a great way to disseminate new knowledge to the people who need it most, but also to ensure that discussions about the science of mental health include all the right people.
Requirements
Here’s what we’re looking for:
- Mental health knowledge – this could be lived experience, clinical knowledge or research skills. It is not necessary to have studied mental health.
- An interest in mental health research – this could be reading research articles or a role in participating in or carrying out research. We want people who share our commitment to accessible, usable, and reliable evidence in mental health care, but it is not necessary to have written materials.
- Social Media Skills – we need people experienced in using Twitter and willing to become elves. You don’t need to have pointy ears or periwinkle pickers with bells.
- Confident communicators – Our team members will be able to work independently to cover smaller events, as well as join teams at larger conferences.
What we will do
Here’s how it will work:
- Training and support – we will come together as a team to train you in live tweeting and support you before, during and after the events you cover.
- Project assignment – we will contact the team regularly to ask who is available to cover upcoming events. Some will be online and others in person. We will select the best people to cover the events, based on their knowledge of the subject and their experience. Each event will have a replacement person assigned, just in case you have to drop out at the last minute.
- Salary and expenses – we will pay you for your working time and will cover any travel and accommodation costs.
