It’s no secret I’m a huge fan of tahini and I’m constantly trying to find new ways to include it in recipes. Especially desserts, because I think tahini is such a versatile ingredient to include in healthy treats. I also find it goes exceptionally well with chocolate – my other foods love it! So I mixed them with a few other basic ingredients to create this super easy, quick, no-cook snack.
These tahini chocolate balls are the kind of thing I like to snack on between breakfast and lunch to keep me from reaching for the packet of cookies. These delicious treats are much more than just a sweet treat: they contain a real nutritional boost! With a combination of healthy fats, protein and fiber, these energy balls help keep you full and satisfied.
Why you need to try these tahini chocolate balls:
Minimal ingredients – You only need 5 ingredients that you probably already have in your cupboard. The 2 main ingredients are tahini and cocoa powder – both nutrient-packed and great for overall health.
Easy to make – No one has time for complicated, time-consuming snacks. You don’t even need a food processor to make these chocolate tahini balls. All you need is a bowl and a spoon! Mix it all together, shape and enjoy: that’s all there is to do.
Customizable – One of the best things about these balls is their versatility. You can add different ingredients depending on your tastes and dietary needs – think spices, dried fruits or even protein powder for extra muscle support. They are vegan/dairy-free and can also be easily made gluten-free. They also don’t contain any nuts, unlike most energy balls which contain some sort of nut or nut butter.
Perfect for before or after training – Need a pre-workout snack that isn’t too heavy but provides enough fuel? These tahini chocolate balls are a great option. The combination of healthy fats from tahini, complex carbohydrates from oats, and healthy fats from tahini provide the perfect balance of energizing nutrients.
What you will need to make these tahini chocolate balls:
Tahini: Made from ground sesame seeds, tahini is rich in healthy fats, including omega-6 fatty acids, and offers a good amount of protein and calcium. It also provides a slightly savory, nutty flavor that perfectly balances the sweetness of the chocolate. Lebanese runny tahini is always my choice for the best taste and texture.
Cocoa: Cocoa powder not only adds rich flavor, but also antioxidants, which may improve heart health and mood.
Oats – Oats provide complex carbohydrates that slowly release energy. They are rich in soluble fiber, especially beta-glucan, which helps support healthy digestion and can stabilize blood sugar levels. The perfect addition to snacks to help you stay energized between meals or before/after a workout.
Maple syrup – we need some sort of sweetener to cut through the bitterness of the tahini and chocolate. I use maple syrup because I always have some in my cupboard, but other sweeteners will also work like honey, agave, rice syrup, etc.
Sesame seeds – I like to toast my sesame seeds for a few minutes in a dry pan (no oil needed!) to bring out the nutty flavor. Trust me, it makes a big difference in the taste of these tahini chocolate balls.
How to make these tahini chocolate balls:
-
Optional Step – Toast the sesame seeds in a dry pan over medium heat for a few minutes, stirring continuously. This will help bring out the natural nutty flavor of the seeds. Leave to cool.
-
Add the tahini and maple syrup to a bowl and mix.
-

-
