This is a great trail if you want a taste of the Appalachian Trail in the Smokies and are short on time. It leaves from the parking lot overlooking Newfound Gap and heads north on the AT. There are some great views and you will see a typical shelter.
This trail remains very icy in winter and microspikes are recommended.

Approximately 6.2 miles round trip, with an elevation gain of approximately 1,300 feet
