Keadeen Map
Below is a map of the walk to the summit of Keadeen.
Departure from Keaden car park
The parking lot is located here. Arrive early at this mountain as parking is limited. Only 4 to 5 spaces are available for cars on this forest road location.
Hike Keadeen Mountain
The hike begins at the parking lot. Make sure you turn left immediately and don’t take the forest road like I did.
At the parking lot follow the hiking path dug in the woods and not the forest path. Once you find the way, the trail to the summit is well marked and easy to follow.
After about 200 m of walking and a steady climb along the edge of the woods, we arrive at a fence. Cross the fence and follow the fence line up the hill. The path crosses a field but is easy to follow.
At the end of the field you come to an open mountain. From this point on, the land becomes very wet and marshy. Visibility was poor for us the day we hiked, but I’m sure there are some incredible views from here.
Go through the opening in the fence and be careful on the mountain for deep swampy sections.
From this section you will descend into a small valley and then ascend another hill. The Cairn is then located at the summit.
Optional additional walk to Carrig Mountain
We decided to walk Carrig Mountain as the summit of Keadeen Mountain was only 4km away and we felt we needed to stretch our legs a bit more.
We headed back down the hill but now followed the fence up to Carrig Cairn.
The Carrig Mountain cairn was just a pile of stones but it was a nice little extra walk to finish the hike. We took the same route back to the car.
