While I was in Connecticut for work a few months ago, I was looking for something to do since my flight landed around 2 p.m. I came across the Mark Twain Home & Museum located in Hartford, about a 20 minute drive from the airport.
A magnificent museum is the starting point of your visit. There are two floors containing informational exhibits and even a short film. There is also a small gift shop inside the museum.
I booked online, but saw a lot of people coming in and taking the next available tour. There are two tours to choose from and I chose the general house tour which lasts about 55 minutes and cost $28 at the time. Prices and tour times are indicated on their website.
This beautiful Victorian house contains 25 rooms and is where Samuel Clemons (aka Mark Twain) lived with his family for approximately 17 years. He also wrote his best-known novels there, including The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.
Although photos are not allowed inside the house, believe me when I say this house was beyond amazing. I took a few photos of the exterior and given the elaborate details on the exterior of the house, you can only imagine what the inside looks like. The architectural details were impressive. I really liked the woodworking and stenciled wallpapers.
We had previously been to the Mark Twain Boyhood Home in Hannibal, Missouri, so it was good to see more of his life. You can read my article HERE on this site!
I highly recommend you check out this site. Thanks for reading!
