After several phone conversations, people details, overview of overall goals and on-site reflections, I duly got to work building a full day for “Team Rock Fall”.
The location chosen was the Peak District National Park, partly for the mix of fitness levels of the team, but just as important was the location, ideal for the team coming from Derby.
Two routes are therefore planned, one for the most “fit” and a more relaxing route for the more “casual” walkers.
My intention was to distance the team as psychologically as possible from the constraints of work, to allow them to discover things about others and themselves, to enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the Peak District and to encourage a certain openness of ‘spirit. of reflection and creativity that they could bring back to the company.
The “digital detox” was therefore planned, I just had to check the route with my senses.
In early April, Matt (Sales Manager) and I spent 4 hours wandering around the Ladybower and Derwent reservoirs, checking that the ‘mix’ was right for both sides. It was, so a few weeks later Matt confirmed the date for the team event, and we were now ready to go.
The route took us from Cutthroat Bridge, up the ridge of Whinstone Lee Tor, up to Lost Boy Tor, then back down near Howden Dam, back to the Ladybower Visitor Center where we all enjoyed Mr. Whippy with a flake in it! (They used to be called 99’s, but with inflation I think they’re more like £2.50)!
In the end there were 5 team members, two dogs and me, which turned out to be a large number allowing everyone to mix effectively.
Walk on, and with everyone warm and toasty after 4 hours in the countryside, it was time to rehydrate and grab a bite to eat, so we all headed to the Yorkshire Bridge pub, which certainly did not disappoint!
After publishing the details of the day on Linked in, I think we have awakened a certain imagination as to a “different” way of investing in your teams, and a way of relaunching creativity, far from the limits of the madness of emails and phone calls!
With over 3,298 impressions, we may have just started a “Rock Fall trend”
Escape, discover, grow.
