What an incredible ride today! We started the day not knowing if we would be able to do this walk. When we left the hotel it was foggy and it got worse as we got closer to Keystone.
Since we couldn’t do Iron Mountain Rd in the fog, we decided to try to find a place in Keystone to have breakfast. Apparently everyone had the same idea. The wait lasted two hours!
We finally found a little cafe outside of town where we ate last time. There was no waiting. The food and service were completely different from before. Instead of table ordering at a menu restaurant like before, it was now a very small buffet with very few food options. It turns out the ownership has changed. It’s a shame because last time it was pretty good.
After breakfast the fog cleared and we started our walk.
We started our ride down Iron Mountain Rd to Custer State Park, where we did the wildlife loop.
Most of the ride was uneventful, but once we reached the end we found a herd of bison in a field. So we stopped with everyone to take photos from far away, because you should never approach fluffy cows. .
Once back on the road, we head towards Hot Springs. It wasn’t long before we found another herd of bison; this time they were along the road and in the road.
Luckily, they were good boys and girls and let us and the other bikers pass without incident. On the other hand, if you were in a car, they blocked you and refused to move, lol. They must like bikers more, haha.
The ride to Hot Springs was beautiful.
We finished our walk at the Mammoth Site dig site in Hot Springs.
