I’ve been running this website since 2011 and have published quite a bit of information about walking in London during that time. But which items are the “biggest hits”? I dug into my website stats to find out.
1. Q&A: Hikes near London with great views?
The most popular post EVER on London Hiker was a Q&A where I answered a question about the great views near London.
Makes sense, exactly what I would want to know if I had recently started hiking in London.
In fact, I’ve posted a lot more about this since I published this short article!
If you’re interested in interesting viewpoints, you might also like this more recent article, which offers a very different perspective than mine:
2. The best book for day walks from London
I’m a HUGE fan of the Time Out Book of Country Walks and love recommending the books for day walks from London.
Many years later I still think they are the best if you want REAL country walks from train stations around London (and some great country pubs and tea rooms too).
Taking the walks described in these books opened my eyes to some of the beautiful countryside surrounding London.
I’m glad people are still discovering them!
3. Looking for a hiking group leaving London?
I still maintain this list of rambling clubs which do weekend breaks out of London, as well as linking to the excellent list maintained by Rambling Clubs of the many, many walking clubs which organize day walks from of the city.
This is always a popular topic and I often get asked about organized walks and clubs to join – I often direct people to this page!
4. You can have London and the Hills
One of the first articles I wrote and a sort of manifesto!
I was keen to reassure readers that living in London did not mean missing out on the beautiful British countryside, green spaces and natural wonders.
If you want a little inspiration and four suggestions for fantastic walking areas you can reach within 1-4 hours of London, take a look.
5. Questions and Answers: Where are the steepest hills near London?
As a fan of hills, I loved answering this fabulous question and as you’ll see, I found the 10 ‘steepest’ hills accessible from London in a day’s walk, plus some other great ideas of magnificent views that weren’t necessarily steep but were still worth the effort. a mention.
