If you’ve never tried a Pilates class or are wondering why you would want to incorporate both practices into your wellness routine, read on to find out why we’re so excited to offer both yoga and Pilates on mat.
One of the goals of modern yoga and Pilates is spinal health; both can create more mobility and stability in the spine. Where Pilates can really elevate your yoga practice is through its emphasis on core stability, where you learn to engage and move from your deeper core muscles. Better core stability = safer yoga practice throughout life, And safer travel every day!
In Power Living Pilates classes, you will integrate your muscles, body and breathing in a different and complementary way to your yoga classes. Pilates offers a full-body workout that builds more muscular endurance by activating stabilizing muscles that sometimes aren’t worked in a flowing vinyasa yoga class. The repetitive movements of Pilates and fuller engagement of the deep core will contribute to better posture, better spinal health, and improved strength.
“If your spine is inflexibly stiff at 30, you are old. If at 60 you are completely flexible, you are young. »
–Joseph Pilates
Duncan Peak, founder of Power Living, explains: “Modern yoga, in all its forms, is an amazing practice for the body and mind, but an excessive focus on flexibility, like all sporting activities, has its shortcomings. » The problem here is that if we rely too much on our passive range of motion and don’t work on stabilizing our joints and training our active range of motion, we are not optimizing our body’s ability to be both mobile, And strong. Through repetitive training in both classic and modern Pilates styles, we can further help protect our bodies for our yoga asana practice and all our athletic endeavors. Pilates can have a positive impact on all the ways we move through our world.
In short, Power Living Pilates is the balancing practice of modern yoga that ensures that passive range of motion and muscular flexibility are balanced with greater joint stability and muscular strength.
As a Power Living member, all Pilates classes are included in your current membership! You can expect a challenging, fun, inspiring and functional 45-minute full-body workout that merges classic and modern Pilates with functional mobility training.
