Jasmine Ellemo’s passion for helping others guides her journey from teacher to recovery expert. His unwavering dedication to his work with cancer patients in his community is truly inspiring.
Interview conducted by Meg, Brand Engagement Manager at Tune Up Fitness, with over 25 years of dance experience, having started in Dallas, Texas, and has now traveled the country performing and teaching. After years of repetitive dance movements, Meg’s shoulder, hand and foot pain were relieved using the Roll Model® method. This new knowledge inspired Meg to take more Tune Up Fitness classes; She continued to take the Body By Breath and Yoga Tune Up® teacher certifications to share them with her students and rekindle her love for anatomy.
Jasmine loves the saying: “What we do today affects our future.” She firmly believes that good nutrition, exercise, stress management and relationship building are essential to health and well-being.
Jasmine started teaching ballet, jazz and fitness in 1977 and loved it because she had so much fun with her students. In the meantime, his years of teaching have allowed him to realize how important it is to move with ease and grace. Jasmine began to understand how proper posture and movement could reduce the risk of injury.
Shortly after taking her 500-hour yoga teacher training, his concept for Jasmine Rose Yoga was born! Jasmine is Tune Up Fitness® approved and also certified to teach SUP Yoga (Stand Up Paddleboard).
Learn more about Jasmine in this month’s Teacher Highlight interview below.
Meg: Why did you start teaching?
Jasmine Ellemo: I started teaching because my dance teacher offered me a job and said she thought I should and could do it. I returned to teaching because I love helping people become fit and healthy for the rest of their lives.
Meg: What is your number 1 tip for teachers?
Jasmine Ellemo: Believe in yourself and be authentic!
Meg: What is your preferred deployment:
Jasmine Ellemo: I love the foot deployment. Just step on the ball and roll everywhere. I imagine the ball is a pencil, the foot is a canvas and the action is a scribble like a young child!
Meg: What is your favorite move?
Jasmine Ellemo: Neutral standing Tadasana and Barbie doll feet. Barbie doll feet are so cool! When I teach it, people realize how much their feet move. I remember from my Yoga Tune Up® online certification training how innovative it was for the feet. Especially coming from the ballet world, where you clench your toes so much and point your feet.
Meg: What is the impact of Tune Up Fitness® certified training on your teaching?
Jasmine Ellemo: Tune Up Fitness Certified the trainings have and continue to impact my teaching in many ways. Especially by encouraging me to continue learning. For example, I recently attended Gil Hedley’s Nerve Tour. The training helped me incorporate rolling techniques, breath work, and share more informed body awareness with all of my students. Regardless their capacity.
Meg: How have your Tune Up Fitness workouts helped you in your work to The West Island Cancer Wellness Center west of Montreal?
Jasmine Ellemo: I have been offering weekly classes to patients with breast and other cancers since 2017. I enjoy using The Coregeous® Ball here because it helps students relax and forget about what is happening for an hour or more. I am not doing a specific breast deployment for this program. Feeling the breath with the ball calms so many people in this type of environment. It helped everyone relax. THE West Island Cancer Wellness Center, west of Montreal is a community funded program and all programs are free to the participant. Participants can use the program for up to a year after receiving treatment and add a caregiver to join them. There’s everything from yoga and reflexology to art and cooking. I just played a small “role” in their impressive cause.
Meg: What is your favorite ball?
Jasmine Ellemo: I use the Coregeouse Ball the most and run a weekly restorative class using the Coregeouse. I love rolling on the sacrum, stomach and between the shoulder blades.
Meg: How can we find you online?
