Sasha Alex Morgan is a London-based yoga and Pilates teacher who offers classes in the studio and on her online platform, Sasha Alex Studio. We met Sasha to find out more about her journey and her inspirations…
Tell us a little about yourself…
I’m a 27 year old Pilates and yoga instructor based in London, but I love traveling, teaching and sharing movement from beautiful locations! I have been teaching in studios, at events and retreats for about 7 years and have owned my online platform for 4 years, Sasha Alex Studio. I have a background in dance and luckily discovered yoga during my difficult years at dance college in London. Yoga quickly became a sanctuary for me, where I could focus on the feel of the movement rather than the way it looked, and on healing my body rather than punishing it. My greatest goal as an instructor is for others to also experience the power of conscious, embodied movement. I am completely in love with my job and how it has connected me with amazing people, including this community! I also like in-depth discussions, the Huberman Lab podcast, chocolate orange (a lifelong obsession), sunset by the sea, running, coffee, psychology books and traveling.
What does a typical day look like for you?
I always start my day with a 10 minute meditation practice followed by journaling with coffee. I’ve gotten to the point where my day just doesn’t feel right without it! I will then have a Yoga or Pilates practice at home before preparing a few classes, going to teach at an event, training clients or working on my online studio, Sasha Alex Studio. About twice a week I do weight training and sauna in the afternoon, then later in the day I may take calls, do SA Studio video editing and social media posts. In the early evening, I tend to wind down by catching up with my partner, cooking a healthy dinner, and watching Netflix with chocolate.
How did your Pilates journey begin and what inspired you to become a teacher?
While at dance school, about 10 years ago, we had ‘sculpt’ style classes which weren’t too different from contemporary mat Pilates and I had dabbled a bit on YouTube. However, at that time, yoga alone had my heart and it was only a few years after teaching yoga and bar that I discovered some inspiring instructors and developed a love for the depth and detail of Pilates on carpet. I decided to train in 2020 with STOTT Pilates and it turned out to be the most transformative experience both in terms of personal practice and quality of teaching!
What led you to specialize in your practice?
I am fascinated by anatomy, and with my dance background, being able to teach effective and precise alignment is important to me. I particularly like contemporary mat Pilates because it allows the same freedom on the mat as a yoga practice while being grounded in precise technique based on modern anatomical research.
How have you seen your practice benefit your students?
In many ways! Physically, in terms of greater body awareness, strength, flexibility, balance, coordination and the ability to move more easily throughout life. These physical benefits often lead to reduced stress/better nervous system regulation, more focus and clarity, more self-awareness and self-compassion, and most importantly, I believe, a sense of being more comfortable in his body. Clients have told me how my classes have transformed their relationship with exercise, discovering that movement doesn’t have to be punishing to be effective and that sometimes gentle movement is what we need most.
What is your favorite quote or life motto?
