From 2024 I will be offering private yoga classes in Hove, East Sussex on Thursdays. This is in addition to my Hove workshops which take place on Sunday afternoons.
I teach one-on-one yoga to people who have never attended a group yoga class. I also teach people on an ad hoc basis when their regular course breaks for the summer. You might have issues that mean you would struggle to cope in a group class. Some students take advantage of a private yoga session to enhance their own practice at home. Others know that without our sessions, they would never do yoga!
Whatever your motivation, a tailor-made course can have many benefits. I ask new students to complete a comprehensive health questionnaire before scheduling our first session. When I see how your body moves, I can then adapt poses as needed. The plan will progress over time as needed, so no two sessions will ever be exactly the same. If you’re trying to manage pain, we’ll address that first. Having the session in the comfort of your own home can also make a big difference. No need to wrap up warm when driving home, which could potentially undo some of your hard work.
In a classroom, it is simply not possible for a teacher to give each student the attention they need to correct their posture, for example. One-on-one, I can use props like belts, blocks, and even chairs, to make a huge difference in how we work in a pose. Iyengar yoga emphasizes alignment using props to assist us, and I like to explain the key actions of each pose.
